"Boy" Tour And People And Stories

· News

The BOY band on most of the Fall tour in Europe was Don The Tiger AKA Adrian, Lisa Gamble, John Eichenseer and me. Here’s our last gig together. We were shown a whole new level of hospitality at this concert on Tenerife in The Canary Islands. KEROXIN Festival. And that is us playing inside. And that is what it looks like from the outside:

On the spring tour, right before the BOY album came out (released March 2014, my 5th on Constellation) the band was Andrea Belfi who co-wrote and played on the album, Adrián De Alfonso Prieto-Puga AKA Don The Tiger, Jhno and me. In Prague the venue and organization making the gig were so great. The band was a very burning thing. It was my millionth anniversary for being clean. A gentleman at the bar gave me the most beautiful flowers. After the show the whole drunken, wiley room was kind enuf to sing me happy birthday and give me flaming humous and fake beer and everyone made a toast! The whole band toasted me with fake beer. In a way it felt like a birthday party for all the gigs I’ve played—-all rolled into one pretty, Czech moment and then blown out. On how many May, 4th “birthdays” have I performed in drinking establishments far from home? 12? 13? At least one out of every 2 years.

The fella next to me with glasses is one of my heros. He’s an adventurer, teacher, conceptualist, musician of electronics and, I’m not blowing smoke…. fuck it, let’s just say: my kind of violist. My hat is way off to Jorge Boehringer. In fact, when we were just myspace friends, I just assumed in person he’d be a bit noisey-snooty. He’s the opposite of all that nonsense.

But wait! Also: Freddie Ruppert of This Song’s A Mess And So Am I and Former Ghosts, etcetera… was there with his wife Veronika, who I wish was my next door neighbor and we were spicy lion tamers. Freddy is inspiring to say the least and somehow makes me feel that if he digs my stuff than I’m ruling. He created this composition including the words and asked me to sing…. I recorded the vocals in a jungle hostel in Oero Puerto, Brazil after doing the COMA festival. I only had Garage Band to sing into (which I love). Somehow Freddy made the whole thing sound like this and it’s another of my favs that I’d like to put on the comp of never released and hard to find stuff:

The stage was same height as the floor. A very smart young woman interviewed me. Politics, feminism (!). People were right up next to us and did not have their arms folded in front of them. Moving. Prague at Potrva was a great one.

unbelievably happy to be playin with my homeslice ches smith and for him to be opening all shows with his solo project Congs For Brums.

besides ches on drums and percussion the band is tara barnes on bass, dominic cramp on keyboards and electronics, once again the amazing francesco guerri will spend his holiday playing cello with us. everybody sings and i like to play guitar and break things. there are no cats on this tour but if you are a cat you can sell merch.

after the tour we go directly to montreal to record our next Evangelista album, number 3 on Constellation! it’ll be finished by the end of february and out after a bit next year. there are many guests we want on the album but plane tix are monstrous right now. i believe that for now our full wishlist is fucked but still, i think you’ll get some nice surprises. yes.

thanks to everyone that came to the shows this year and filled our gas tank. buying our stuff after the show makes it so we can pay expenses so thank you.

here’s one of my horse things i sometimes do:

It is the 1 year anniversary of the night Tara and me and fellows Vincent and Antoine were randomly attacked on the street in Paris. At the time I was singing "Outside Of Town" and couldn’t remember the words or the chords, In short, I was butchering the performance pretty badly. But still the man had no right to clock me like that! Ha. He broke my fucking cheekbone. It’s alright, at least I’m not——-HIM. A couple of people have asked me if I was afraid I’d run into him next time I was in Paris. He was a complete stranger. Thanks for the love but….get a grip.

Scarnella (Nels and Me) will be playing on Saturday night. Outside Of Town is the first song I ever wrote. Nels and I did the song, duo, as an extended improv at the end of many Geraldine Fibbers shows. It’s the song of a girl killing a fucking creep who did her wrong. Maybe, in honor of my beautiful cheek, we will do it again Saturday. The whole night will be filled with amazing music. Then Monday I play solo at a house party. Check below for all show details.

Please take note!!!!!

Here’s a video for Evangelista’s "Winds Of Saint Anne" made by an incredible Italian artist. I only know her name is Sara and that she’s posted lots of film things on my myspace page that led me to ask her if she would do one for us. It is fucking great. Sara. Tell me your last name. You are great.

and her myspace page is wicked:

also, look at this link:

It’s an appropriately disturbing video montage of the works of 16th century doom metal painter, Pieter Bruegal set to the swashbuckling, apocolyptic buddy-song, Truth Is Dark Like Outer Space, by Evangelista. All I know is that the person who did this goes by the handle, Aluminium Face. In the USA we spell it: aluminum. This girl or guy ain’t from around here. Show yourself.

So, again about the guy in Paris, I broke my cheekbone on his fist, which he swung at me while running at me full speed with his 6 foot+ frame. Apparently this gave me a concussion. We didn’t know it was that bad because….. well because my head got hit and I wasn’t thinking straight. We just thought I had the mother of all black eyes and my head and cheek hurt because, well yours would too! We kept touring. Played 14 more shows. I blame the fact that I went through those shows with that amount of blinding pain on the fact that I grew up in San Pedro with all those intense, hard-living longshoreman, house painters and of course, the ultimate tour dogs, the ultimate role models for discipline on the road, The Minutemen! Well, we would have lost all the money we paid for plane tickets and car rental—-thousands of lucre that we couldn’t pay back. We would also have never seen Pompeii’s volcano or way up high in Tuscany or the incredible island of Sicily, and whatever else I can’t remember….. but I’m sure it was great. I remember laughing a lot and going, "ouch" and then again and again and again, the same thing, ha ha ouch, all day, every day, ha ha ha ouch……… I wish you could all be with Tara Barnes in hard times. "Come on Carla, let’s take more pictures of your purple face! Put this cannelloni in your nose!". I am lucky, for sure and for reals.

first, tomorrow Saturday, november 15—(this show will be transmitted on KXLU unless everyone is too drunk):

then on Monday Nov 17 (i don’t know the times):
